About The Great Western Hospital
The Great Western Hospital is a very modern district hospital providing emergency care, surgery, diagnostics, paediatric care, maternity and out-patient services. The hospital opened in 2002 and holds over 600 beds.
The Requirement
Due to rising energy bills and increasing legislation, The Great Western Hospital at Swindon realised the need to manage their energy efficiently.
Carillion needed to implement a complete energy management solution that would enable them to reduce energy costs and greenhouse gases, and ensure that the existing building management system was being used efficiently at the hospital.
More specifically they required a fully web based system, accessible from any PC across the hospital. They needed to continually monitor energy consumption on a month by month basis, allowing them to compare the data to the same month, year on year, as well as perform further comprehensive analyses of functions such as budgeting, legislative analysis and invoice validation.
The Solution
Carillion had been contracted to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions by 10% per year over three years at the The Great Western Hospital, Swindon. To implement this reduction, Carillion used eSight to apply a set of targets across the site. After applying these targets, Carillion were then able to use eSight to analyse the new energy data obtained from the utility companies and compare that data with the same month from the previous year. For this the Invoice Validation Module from eSight Energy’s eSight was used.
eSight Invoice Validation enabled The Great Western Hospital’s invoices to be automatically analysed in bulk with the minimum of manual intervention. Carillion were also required to provide their client with reports on their implemented changes and their resulting effects, namely savings made to date. By making use of the eSight Reporting Tool, Carillion were able to supply the Great Western Hospital with clear, detailed reports on every aspect of their data.
